Engineers in stormwater hydraulic design are responsible for designing and analyzing systems that manage and control the flow of stormwater. This includes designing and sizing stormwater detention and retention ponds, channels and culverts, and determining the appropriate size and type of stormwater management structures such as catch basins, inlets and outlets. They also use computer models to simulate and analyze the flow of stormwater in a catchment area and predict the potential impacts of different design options. Additionally, they may also be involved in the inspection and maintenance of existing stormwater management systems.
