Civil engineers in bulk earthworks modeling and design are responsible for creating 3D models of large-scale earthworks projects, such as the construction of highways, airports, and large-scale commercial and residential developments. They use computer-aided design (CAD) software to design and visualize the excavation, cut and fill operations, as well as the placement of soil, rock and other materials for the project. They also assess and determine the most efficient and cost-effective methods for moving and placing large volumes of earth and materials. Additionally, they work with geotechnical engineers to analyze soil stability, slope stability and geotechnical risks, and they communicate with project managers to ensure that the earthworks design is feasible and cost-effective. Finally, they provide construction support and may oversee the construction process to ensure that the design specifications are being met.
